- • Contrast is far too low - most scanners will fail. Darken the code or lighten the background.
- • Contrast is below the 4.5:1 guideline. Try a darker foreground.
- • Contrast is workable but not generous. Fine on screen, riskier in print.
- • Light code on a dark background. Modern phones cope; older scanners often do not.
- • Long content with low error correction. Raise error correction to Quartile or High.
- • The content is long, so the code is dense. Print it larger, or shorten the content.
- • The logo covers a lot of the code. Below 30% is safer.
- • With a logo, use High error correction.
- • The quiet zone is very tight. Increase it under Shape & style.

A vCard QR code contains a small contact file. Scanning it opens the phone’s “add contact” screen with every field already filled in - name, job title, company, phone, email, website and address. No app, no sign-up, no typing, and no chance of a digit being mistyped.

Keep it compact
Every field you add makes the pattern denser and harder to scan. Name, phone and email cover most situations. Long postal addresses and free-text notes are what usually push a vCard code into “hard to scan” territory - if the scannability meter drops, remove the address first and let your website carry it instead.
Formatting that works everywhere
- Write phone numbers in international form,
+49 30 123456, so they dial from anywhere. - The first word of the name is treated as the given name and the last as the family name, which is what iOS and Android expect when they sort your contacts.
- Include the
https://on your website so phones make it tappable. - Commas and semicolons are escaped automatically, so a company like
Meyer, Schulz & Cosurvives the round trip intact.
Static means permanent
Your details are stored in the code, not on our servers, so nothing expires and nothing is tracked. The flip side is that a printed card cannot be edited - if you change employer, generate a new code. Encoding a link to a contact page you control is the alternative when details change often.
