Scanners need clear space around the code. Below 4% many phones struggle.

A logo covers part of the code, so error correction is raised to High automatically.

Frames and captions are included in every download, including SVG.

Higher levels survive scratches and logos but make the code denser.

Printing tips

  • Use SVG for print - it stays sharp at any size.
  • Keep the printed code at least 2 x 2 cm, more for distant scanning.
  • Dark code on a light background scans most reliably.

Styles are stored in this browser only.

Scanability
  • • Contrast is far too low - most scanners will fail. Darken the code or lighten the background.
  • • Contrast is below the 4.5:1 guideline. Try a darker foreground.
  • • Contrast is workable but not generous. Fine on screen, riskier in print.
  • • Light code on a dark background. Modern phones cope; older scanners often do not.
  • • Long content with low error correction. Raise error correction to Quartile or High.
  • • The content is long, so the code is dense. Print it larger, or shorten the content.
  • • The logo covers a lot of the code. Below 30% is safer.
  • • With a logo, use High error correction.
  • • The quiet zone is very tight. Increase it under Shape & style.

Always scan a test print before ordering in bulk.

Nothing you type is sent to a server.

## What "free" means here

Plenty of QR sites call themselves free and then ask for a credit card before you can save anything, or hand you a code that stops working when a trial ends. So it is worth being precise about what costs nothing on this site:

Building a QR code Free, unlimited
Customising colours, shapes, logos and frames Free, unlimited
Previewing at full quality Free, unlimited
Your first download Free
Downloads after that from $0.10 each in volume packs, no subscription
Codes expiring Never
Creating an account Not required

There is no trial clock, no watermark on what you download, and no monthly fee. If you need one QR code, you will pay nothing at all. Beyond the free one, credits are sold in packs and get cheaper the more you buy - the current rates are on the pricing page.

Why the codes never expire

Every code made here is static: your link, WiFi password or contact details are encoded directly into the black-and-white pattern. Nothing points at our servers, so there is nothing we could switch off, and no account of ours that could lapse and take your printed poster down with it.

That is different from the “free” dynamic codes many services advertise. Those encode a short URL on the provider’s domain and redirect to your real destination. Handy while you are paying, but the moment the free tier ends or the company folds, every code you printed becomes a dead link. Uniqode’s 2026 report found 29% of consumers have already scanned a dead QR code.

The trade-off is real and worth understanding: a static code cannot be edited after printing. If you need to change where a code points, point it at a URL you control and change what lives at that URL.

What you can make for free

Each one supports the full design toolkit: your own colours and gradients, six module shapes, custom corner styles, a logo in the middle, frames with a caption, and export at up to 4096px or as vector SVG.

Free QR codes for commercial use

Anything you download is yours. Put it on packaging, in a paid advert, on merchandise you sell - there is no attribution requirement and no licence fee. We do not claim any rights over codes you generate, and because generation happens in your browser, we never see the data you encoded in the first place.

How to make one

  1. Pick the type of code you need from the list above.
  2. Type in your link, network details or contact information.
  3. Style it - or click a preset and adjust from there.
  4. Watch the scannability meter. Green means it will survive real-world scanning.
  5. Download as PNG for screens, or SVG if it is going to print.

The whole thing takes under a minute, and step five is free the first time.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a catch with the free QR code?
No. The first download costs nothing and produces exactly the same file as a paid one - full resolution, no watermark, no expiry. After that, downloads start from $0.10 each depending on pack size, with no subscription.
Do I need to sign up?
No. There are no accounts. Credits, if you buy any, are tied to your browser.
Can I use a free QR code commercially?
Yes, without restriction or attribution.
Will my free QR code stop working?
No. Static codes have no expiry date and do not depend on this site staying online.
How many free QR codes do I get?
One free download. Designing and previewing are unlimited and always free, so you can try as many designs as you like before spending your free download on the one you want.
